Construction will start early 2019 to upgrade the T3 Bankstown Line between Sydenham and Bankstown to Sydney Metro standards.
Sydney Metro has appointed the joint venture currently delivering the Sydney Metro upgrade to Sydenham Station, John Holland Pty Ltd and Laing O’Rourke Australia Construction Pty Ltd, to undertake early works along the T3 Bankstown Line like site geotechnical investigations, early design, and enabling works such as surveying and utilities investigations. Following this, construction will be prioritised to install lifts at the five stations that currently don’t have them, to improve customer access well before metro trains start running.
The upgrade includes the conversion of 13.5km of railway and the upgrade of all 11 stations between Sydenham and Bankstown to modern Sydney Metro standards with lifts, level platforms and platform screen doors for safety and increased security.
Public feedback has helped refine the delivery of Sydney Metro, with community feedback driving improvements that include keeping the heritage character of stations and reduced closures of the line during construction.
As part of the planning approval, there will be an upgraded entrance at Campsie and a new concourse across Dulwich Hill Station connecting metro and light rail.
